Okay, can I just say how much I completely LOVE this collection? I love everything about it, from the chic simplicity of the first dresses to the pretty frothy-ness of the ball gowns and, surprisingly, yes, even the cage dress (I think Lady Gaga may be finally getting to me.)

The thing that bugged me? I feel like they used their one (ONE!) black model so they could say:
“Oh hey, almost all our models are blonde white girls; but look! A black model! WE’RE SO INCLUSIVE!!!”
Erm… no. Not by a long shot. Hey, as long as you’re going to have one black model, why not use two? or *gasp* three or even *THE HORROR!!!* four or five or six? Why not throw in a few Asian models, or a couple Hispanic models as well? You wanna talk about REAL diversity? …Yeah, I didn’t think so.

Look, it’s great that a label as big as Valentino is using even one black model. That's how badly the industry is lacking in diversity. But if we’re going to get serious about this, we have to move past just having one non-white model. The whole world isn’t blonde and white, and the models walking on runways shouldn’t be, either. (They shouldn't be walking skeletons, either, but that's for a whole other post.)

  1. You are absolutely right!
I have realized just recently, there is a lack of diversity in the fashion world. There are a number of reasons but I think we need to find a way to change that.
Even in this blogging world, I haven't found different races. I find an occasional one or two but that's about it. I don't know if there is a lack of interest or opportunity but something has to be dealt with

  2. Yes, this is disappointing that they used one black model. But, the awesome cage dress that looks like an undergarment from the Marie Antoinette era threw me off and into heaven.

  3. Do you have a picture of said sista?

Chandra from MoMoMod here! I'm making my IFB links a la mode rounds, and you were next on my list. I was also featured for this week's segment and thought I'd check out your blog post.

My favorite is the first picture of the black dress, but I need color in my life! I'm a vibrant kind of girl!
