Life Lessons

Don’t waste time on people who don’t feel the same way about you.

This might seem like a given, but you’d really be surprised at how many times I’ve done this. Whether it be a boyfriend, or even a supposed “best friend,” nothing sucks more than realize that someone doesn’t feel the same way about you – except realizing it every time you try to make a connection. I’ve recently decided to move on. I’m done feeling like crap because my old best friend no longer seems to want the title anymore. That’s okay. I’m making connections elsewhere.

If you fall, get up and try again – don’t let rejection faze you.

When I was about eight, I was into skateboarding. One day I finally got to go to a skate park for my friend’s birthday party. Needless to say, I wasn’t the best skater there, but my father later told me how he was impressed at how I kept getting up and trying again instead of quitting. The power to get up and try again is an important life skill to have. You’re going to face rejection, but you need to remember that there are always going to be people that are better than you, or more suited for a specific job/person/whatever than you are. You are a unique, perfect individual. Remember that. Let it shine.

Don’t worry about things that are out of your control.

One of the football players in my school actually told me this. Great guy, really. Just goes to show that not all jocks are airheads. He told me that if I can’t control it, I shouldn’t be upset about it, to instead work on how I feel about the situation. It really helped to think of the situation (which, yes, involved a boy. How cliché, right?) as something I needed to deal with on my side, instead of trying to change his side, which was, in essence, unchangeable. Everything happens for a reason – if one guy rejects you, a better one will come along. Trust me, it’s true.

Follow your dreams, no matter how impossible they may seem.

This is a big one for me. If you don’t follow your dreams, you won’t ever be completely happy. You’ll always regret that you didn’t at least try. Nothing compares to the feeling you get when you do something others say you cannot do, so go out there and try. And even  if you fail, at least you can live with the fact that you tried.
